Working on the first version :

The PlayStation was conceived by Ken Kutaragi, who was working in the hardware engineering department at the time and is called the "Father of the PlayStation." The console's origins date back to 1988, when it was a joint project between Sony and Nintendo to create a CD-ROM for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Super Famicom).

The PlayStation was first demonstrated at the Consumer Electronics Show in June 1991, where Sony introduced its console that included a Super Famicom with a built-in CD-ROM. One day after the announcement at the show, Nintendo announced it was ending its partnership with Sony and choosing to work with Philips using the same technology system.

The partnership was canceled due to a disagreement between the two companies about the division of profits. The cancellation of the partnership angered Sony President Norio Ohga, who decided to hire Kutaragi and assign him to develop a PlayStation project to compete with Nintendo.

At the time, negotiations were still ongoing between Sony and Nintendo, with Nintendo presenting to Sony that there was no "game rule" regarding the new partnership with Philips.
