The legend of the starting of the ancient Rome

The ancient Rome

The emergence of Roman civilization:

According to legend, Rome was founded by Romulus and Remus. They were children of Mars, the god of war, and had been left in a basket on the Tiber by the king of the nearby city of Alba Longa to drown. However, they were saved by the wolf, and the twins then lived on with the goal of defeating and avenging the king. They founded their own city on the banks of the river in 753 BC.

The king's brother was killed and Romulus took over as the first king of Rome, to whom he gave his name. After him, the Sabine, Latin, and Etruscan kings came after him. These were earlier Italian civilizations, but they were not hereditary. They were elected by the Senate, and were referred to as "rex", meaning king in Latin. The legend tells of seven kings who ruled Rome, including Romulus, Numa Pompilius, Tullus Hostilius, and Ancus Martius.
